Acosta León, Angel (1932-1964)

Born in Havana, Angel Costa León studied at the Academia de San Alejandro. He worked in the 1950’s as a handyman and driver for the Havana transportation system. Acosta León achieved recognition in Cuba and in Europe for his fantastic depictions of everyday utensils such as coffee pots and for his imaginary machines. His whimsical style is reminiscent of that of Paul Klee.
While traveling in 1964, Acosta León died unexpectedly. Acosta Leon’s work hangs in the National Museum of Cuba in Havana.
